Although the Chinese government does not encourage tipping, that local attitudes toward tipping are changing, and vary with the occasion. It has become a very popular norm to tip the tour guide and driver in recognition of their good service. Also, hotel bell boy expects your tips as well. It is not customary to leave tips at local restaurant. To find out what is proper, it is best to ask you travel agent, China tour operator, or check protocol with your guide while in China. |
